My friend (sister baseball player Tiff Brooks) and I have organized a North American women's baseball team to go to Hong Kong in February 2009 to play in the 2009 Hong Kong Phoenix Cup International Women's Baseball Tournament from February 14-17... in Kowloon, Hong Kong, China. 12 players from the U.S. and Canada, including myself, will make up the team. We all are extremely excited to travel there to meet new people, make new friends, see Hong Kong, and to play baseball. We'll be playing teams from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), and Australia.
Our team is called the North American Liberty Belles, in honor of the Racine Belles women's baseball team of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) that existed from 1943-1954 and that was the subject of the 1991 Penny Marshall feature film "A League of Their Own".
I'll be there with the North American gals and a few of our fans for 10 days... sight seeing and playing baseball. We can't wait for this terrific experience!
